112 Surfers' ride the wave

of God's love

at First's VBS!!

 

Surf’s up! A total of 112 and 60 adult and youth helpers joined the Beach Party—Surfin’ Through the Scriptures Vacation Bible School at First Lutheran during the first week of August. Surfers were graced with the presence of Flamé the Flamingo whose attitude fell slightly short of the Be Attitudes that they learned about each night. The kids and Flamé learned to Be Obedient, Kind, Forgiving, Bold and Believe through games at Rockin’ Rec, crafts at Beachcombers Craft, Bible stories at
the Scripture Scene, songs at Sound Waves and participated in the following mission projects at Under Sea Mission Center: created a prayer wall; learned about Osupuko, our companion parish in Tanzania; listened to a presentation given by Teri Minnaert and Emily Storm about their mission work in Haiti; and received a visit from a Quad City Red Cross Disaster Team leader, who demonstrated how to make a home disaster kit. As a part of the their mission project the children raised $701.36 for the local chapter of the Quad City Red Cross to benefit local flood victims. We are especially thankful for all the children who brought friends to this exciting week of Bible fun and for all the adults and youth who volunteered their time and talents to help make the beach party fun for all!!
