Health and Wellness

Walking for Wellness—

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the summer exercise program! First had 49 people who accumulated a total of 4,835 miles. Even though the program has concluded, remember that an active lifestyle with regular exercise provides many health benefits. Keep moving!

Health Tip: Children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems are at the greatest risk for food-borne illnesses. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramping, fever, blood or pus in the stool, headache, vomiting and severe exhaustion. Sometimes symptoms may appear as early as a half-hour after eating; other times, it could take several days.
All raw fruits and vegetables can harbor disease-causing bacteria. Thoroughly wash any raw produce under cold running water. This is true for even organic produce.

Blood Pressure: Our Parish Nurse will be checking blood pressures after the services on September 13 & 14 in the
Fellowship Room.

Care Ministry: Please call the church office or Parish Nurse, Joan Holt, jholt@firstgeneseo.org, if you know of someone
in need of a call or visit from a member of our Care Ministry team.

Diabetes Support Group:  “Helping Hands” will meet on Tuesday, August 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Room at First. Gary Bennett, RN & Community Education Director for Hammond Henry Hospital will speak on “Practical Approach for Diabetics.”  The organization is open to anyone who is directly or indirectly affected by diabetes. For more information,

Trinity’s Annual Appreciation of Parish Nurse Ministry

Congratulations! First Lutheran Church is currently one of 56 that is committed to improving the health of its members and we thank you for that. To care for those in the community who are hurting and in need, you have combined resources from both the religious and healthcare sectors to make health education, referrals, support and patient advocacy available to individuals in the Quad City area. Trinity Medical Center applauds the faith and efforts of churches like yours, whose teamwork has greatly impacted the health of the community. For 19 years, Trinity Medical Center has strongly supported the connection between faith and health through Parish Nursing Partnerships. Thank you for your collaboration and caring.
