Thanksgiving Eve
Service

Wednesday, November 26, 2008 — 7 p.m.
at First Presbyterian Church
Come and begin your Thanksgiving celebrations by offering your thanks to Almighty God. First Lutheran, First Congregational and First Presbyterian Churches will worship together at First Presbyterian Church with Holy Communion and a combined choir. You are invited to stay for pie and fellowship after the service.
Christmas Program
Join First for our Sunday School Christmas Program, “Once Upon a Christmas Light” at both the 8:30 and
10 a.m. services on Sunday, December 14. Mark your calendar for this “stellar” event to find the “star” worthy
of leading the way to Bethlehem!
Altar flowers for 2009!
Altar flowers can be donated in honor or memory of a loved one, special occasion, or simply for the glory of God. The cost of two arrangements is $40. If you would like to purchase altar flowers in 2009, please sign up at the Welcome Center.
First Lutheran offers three distinct worship experiences each weekend:
Saturday 5:30 p.m. Informal Worship in Fellowship Room--
A simple worship experience with spoken word and piano music. Communion is offered weekly.
Sunday 8:30 a.m. Traditional Worship--
A formal worship experience with liturgy and music of the Lutheran tradition. Communion is offered twice a month and on festival Sundays.
Sunday 10:00 a.m. Contemporary Worship & Sunday School--
An upbeat worship experience with contemporary Christian music led by praise teams. Communion is offered weekly. Children ages 3 through grade 6 attend Sunday School beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Sunday School rooms, then are guided to the innovative rotational schedule. At 10:45 a.m. children kindergarten through grade 6 will be brought to worship for a children's sermon and communion. Children ages 3 and 4 may remain in the Zacheus' Tree House room for the entire service or may join their parents for the children's sermon and communion as parents desire. Sunday School is in session from September through May.
Our weekly messages are designed to help you better understand the Bible and God’s words for today’s world. We welcome all who believe to receive Holy Communion. Children and those who have not yet received Communion instruction are invited to receive a blessing.
Children are welcome! Children are welcome in worship at First, where a special children’s message is presented every week to help our youngest worshippers understand and live God's words for them. While all children are always welcome, a staffed nursery is provided on Sundays for small children who find it difficult to sit for long periods of time and whose parents desire childcare during worship.
First is handicapped-accessible and we welcome people of all abilities at every worship service and ministry event.
First Lutheran Church offers a Healing Service. You are invited to join us in worship for the healing of body, mind, heart and spirit—for ourselves and for those we love. The liturgy will include a time to come forward for laying on of hands and anointing with oil, if desired. The scheduled Healing and Wholeness liturgies are on the following Saturdays at 5:30 p.m.:
- January 17, 2009
- March 21, 2009
- May 16, 2009
- July 18, 2009
“SEE” THE WORD OF GOD
The Worship & Music Ministry has set an ambitious goal for the next two years: to
illustrate the word of God by filling our
worship space with art. Paintings,
sculpture, quilts, stained glass, weavings, murals, calligraphy—all can teach and
inspire. We are tremendously excited by this added witness, and invite you to share in the fun. We ardently desire your time, talents, and prayers. If you have an interest in art (no experience necessary!), we’d like to hear from you. Please contact Nancy Cassens, Dick Carlson, or Kris Love through the church office. We will put your willing spirit to work for the glory of God.
Baptisms are celebrated at First for persons of all ages. To schedule a baptism please contact the Pastor or the church office.
Weddings at First are a joyous occasion! To schedule a wedding or inquire about wedding policies and procedures please contact the church office.
